PASAY CITY, Philippines — In a historic move aimed at fostering collaboration and mentorship, the Society

of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Inc. (SONAME) and the Alliance of Naval Architecture and

Marine Engineering Students Philippines (ANAMESP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding

(MoU). This landmark agreement paves the way for an exciting partnership between these two

organizations, with the goal of advancing personal and professional growth among their respective

members in ship design and ship building industry. The MoU signifies a commitment to empowering the

next generation of leaders and scholars by bridging the gap between experienced professionals and

aspiring students. The signing ceremony took place at SMX Convention Center Manila during the Blue

Economy Annual Trade and Conference (BEACON) SMX Convention Center last September 7, 2023. The

program adjourned through presentation of token from SONAME to ANAMESP President.

The ANAMESP President, Ms. Trisha Gervacio, shared “This MoU with SONAME is a golden opportunity

for our members. We, the youth are expected to lead the next generation. As young individuals, we still

require supervision, guidance and mentoring to reach our full potential. Who else is best fit for the job?

It’s none other than SONAME. ANAMESP is beyond grateful for their willingness to support us. For our first

project, please look forward to the 4th ANAMESP Convention on February 5 – 8, 2024 at Cagayan de Oro.

In response, the SONAME President, Engr. Raymund Puso expressed excitement about the partnership,

saying, “We believe that by mentoring and guiding the bright minds of ANAMESP, we can help shape the

leaders of tomorrow. It’s our responsibility to share our knowledge and experiences with the next

generation. With that said, you can now officially call me your Kuya.”

In witness of the successful partnership, prominent faculty members and field professionals in the naval

architecture community have praised the initiative for its potential to bridge the gap between senior and

junior members. All awaits the positive impact that SONAME and ANAMESP will undoubtedly have on the

lives and careers of their members. Overall, ANAMESP is committed to its theme, “Building a NAME:

Empowering the Youth towards Philippine Maritime Growth.” Together with SONAME, the organization is

working diligently to strengthen our community, promote our program, and inspire the next generation of maritime leaders for green shipping innovations.
