IN continuing his efforts to assist disaster-affected communities, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s Malasakit Team conducted a relief operation for families in Dilasag, Aurora who were severely impacted by a typhoon. The activity, held over the weekend benefited 132 affected individuals seeking to rebuild their lives and homes.

In a video message during the activity at the covered court of Barangay Maligaya, Go extended his well wishes to the victims, assuring them that they are not alone in their recovery.

The beneficiaries received emergency housing assistance from the national government to support their efforts in rebuilding their homes. Go then underscored the importance of swift recovery for disaster-hit families.

Apart from housing materials assistance, Go’s Malasakit Team also distributed essential goods such as food packs, snacks, clothing, basketballs and volleyballs to uplift the spirits of the affected families.

The senator also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the local officials who continue to serve their communities diligently. He acknowledged outgoing Mayor Joe Gorospe and congratulated Romner Agustin, the newly elected mayor of Dilasag.

Go has consistently advocated for stronger disaster resilience measures in the country. He then proudly announced that the measure he principally authored and co-sponsored—Republic Act No. 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act—had been enacted to institutionalize the construction of proper evacuation centers nationwide.

Go also renewed his call for the passage of his filed Senate Bill No. 188, which seeks to establish the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR). If enacted into law, the department would centralize and streamline the government’s efforts in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

“Ang bawat buhay ay mahalaga. Kaya’t dapat lahat ng aspeto ng disaster management — mula sa rescue, relief, hanggang sa recovery at rehabilitation — ay maayos na napaplanuhan at naisasaayos,” he said.

The senator concluded his message by encouraging Filipinos to continue looking out for one another.

Go who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service for the poor.
