Clarkson-Brownlee Asiad tandem?…

THE possibility of Jordan Clarkson-Justine Brownlee partnership has long been sought three years ago when the country hosted the FIBA World Cup, but turned out to be a tandem that never was.

It could have been an explosive combination for Gilas Pilipinas, had not for some technicality issues ( due to FIBA regulation) and monetary considerations ( on the part SBP).

The said idea is being revived anew, with the Asian Games is still six months away from now, as the National squads set to defend their Gold medal they won during the Hanzhou Games three years ago.

And this time. the prospect of a Clarkson-Brownlee tanden in the coming Asiad is somehow a bit brighter, since the national team had been assembled and playing together during the 2024 Paris Olympic Qualifying Tournament and just been in the FIBA World Cup second qualifying window.

Another bright prospect going for the Gilas is Clarkson’s availability come Asia Games, since the NBA season won’t start until November.

The Asian quadrennial games is slated to be hosted by Nagoya Perfecter. a port city southern part part of Japan and will run from Sept. 19 to Oct.4.

What even more prospect brighter for Gilas-Pilipinas as the Japan Organising Committee has adopted the “Passport Only” as players’ eligibility rule. Which means a foreign player, with a heritage to a particular country and has acquired a passport regardless before they turned 18-years old.

But don’t celebrate yet, there are couple of issues SBP needs to consider, One, is the monetary matters. I believed SBP need to shoulder a very hefty sum (1Million Dollars) based on the previous amount as Clarkson don the Gilas jersey during the 2023 FIBA World Cuo.

Secondly, how fast the Fil-American NBA star learn.adjust and adopt to Coach Tim Cone’s “Triangle offense” system in a short span of time.Well let’s just hope for the best.
