DESPITE threats of fines and sanctions, women’s tennis star Alex Eala has shown and displayed what’s the meaning of patriotism for flag and country iw all about. Not as a privilege or prestige, but for love country and the people you represent in any field of endeavor.
Eala, who's now tagged as the new face of woman’s tennis, globally, after mercurial raising from number 175 to world number 18 at present by the WTA (Women Tennis Association) has chosen to done the national colors and represent our beloved country to the upcoming Asian Games in Achi-Nagoya, Japan starting next week.
The 21-year old Eala, wasn’t bothered or unfazed at all from her long and hectic WTA tour since January that even earned her first WTA 500 title Madubala D,C Open in Washington last summer, chooses to join the national contingent once more, wherein she won the gold medal during Bangkok Southeast Asian Games last year.
But Eala’s intention to represent the country in the Asiad, she’s facing a couple of sanctions from the world governing body for women tennis players.The Rafael Nadal Academy protégée is said to be fined for $10,000 and a possibility to loss at least 500 points that might greatly affect her current WTA ranking.
Eala is reported to skip the Wuhan and the China Open, both with 1000 points at stake, as both tournament runs in complete conflict with staging of the Asian Games. Wuhan Open, which already started last Friday, while the Beijing competition kicks of on the 19th of September and finishing before the end of the said month.
For this corner, I really commend Alex for her gesture being truly a patriot and nationalistic. wherein she puts above all the love for flag and country over fame and fortune. It’s a virtue that you don’t see it or proudly displayed by younger generation nowadays. Just a few. Kudos to you Alexandra Eala, Good Luck, God speed and God Bless,
Meantime, Philippine Olympic Committee head and Congressman Bambol Tolentino, expressed high hopes for the national contingent currently competing in the Japan Asiad, wherein the country sent 436 athletes buying for honors and prestige, as the Taguig lawmaker was quoted saying we will have a windfall of medals in the said conclave.
Tolentino made the prediction during the send off ceremonies for the national athletes last week, along with Senator Bong Go, who is the Senate’s committee chairman on youth and sports development, Go likewise urged athletes to give their all and bring “home the beacon” to make the country proud.
In a related development, did I hear it right?.. The POC is bidding to host the Asian Games come 2038? From what I learned, Tolentino is to present the proposal in the coming OCA Olympic Council of Asia) meeting right in the middle of the staging of the Games within the week .But there’s no immediate details yet, all are just a propose intention so far.
Well, its been a while that country hosted the Olympics of Asia, back in 1954 held in the Rizal Memorial Sports, Complex as the main hub then. The Philippines wound up second overall with 14 Golds, 14 Silvers and 17 Bronzes. Behind Japan with 38-36-24.
