The KBA Stars opened their championship campaign with an impressive 17–14 victory over Muralla IX in a hard-fought, high-scoring contest.
Former national team players Argon De Vera, Ignacio Escaño, and Kyle Villafaña led the offensive charge, while recent UST graduates Tim Caldo, Harry Geronimo, and Irvin Llave made immediate contributions in their KBA debuts.
With the game remaining tight into the late innings, Escaño delivered the decisive blow with a clutch bases-loaded three-run triple, giving the Stars the separation they needed. Llave then closed out the game with scoreless work in the eighth and ninth innings, shutting down any hopes of a Muralla comeback.
At shortstop, De Vera anchored the defense with several outstanding plays, helping preserve the lead and secure the victory.
“This win marks a strong start for KBA, our team displayed the talent, depth, and unity needed for a successful championship run,” KBA founder / owner/ coach Katayama said.
