THREE months before the 2024 Paris Olympics commences in July, the gold medal already given to reigning Olympics and world champion Armand Duplantis and the other pole vaulters, including Ernest John Obiena, Tokyo silver medalist Chris Nilsen, Sam Kendricks, KC Lightfoot and Kurtis Marschall, chasing for the second best with silver at stake.
Duplantis, universally known “Flying Swede” shocked the world of athletics when the 24- years old US born pole vaulter from Sweden set new world record in pole vault clearing the horizontal bar 6.24 meters at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, China.
The Louisiana state born Duplantis broke his old record 6.23 meters in tournament held in Eugene, Oregon, United States, last September.
This is the eight times Duplantis shattered the world record and the only pole vaulter surpassed the six meters at Egret Stadium
“It’s definitely possible, conditions willing. I’m going to try to maximize the most out of everyday” said Duplantis.
Sam Kendricks placed distance second at 5.82 meters, below the 6.24 meters of Duplantis.
Kendricks praised Duplantis “He’s got god’s hands on his back. I’ve been a champion before. Mondo has been my vice champion. I’ve seen him at 14 years old come all the way up,”
Pole is one of the 48 events in athletics in the Paris Summer Games.
