NATIONAL University student-athletes, Julius Villabrille and Solomon Padiz Jr., representing the Philippines claim the men’s badminton doubles championship in the recent ROKETTO Sydney International 2026.
Displaying the grit of Bulldogs, the duo conquered Chinese Taipei’s Shao Hua Chiu and Lin Bing-Wei in a three-set final, 2-1 (21-18, 18-21, 21-13).
This is the first gold of the country in the tournament, part of the Badminton World Federation's International Series and Badminton Oceania circuit.
The tandem have been teammates since 2019 as part of the NU Men’s Badminton Team, extending NU’s UAAP championship to a six-peat and a seven-peat in 2019 and 2022, respectively.
Padiz was also Rookie of the Year in UAAP Season 82 and Most Valuable Player in UAAP Season 85 while serving as team captain. In UAAP Season 87, he led the team to NU's ninth title.
