IN the light of mass exodus of the country’s top young basketeers desire to play overseas as attracted by hefty offers and juicy benefits, which they can’t refused. Has left our own professional league with leftovers come Rookie Draft session.

Alarmed by these new series of players’ migration to the neighbouring pro-leagues in Japan Korea, Taiwan, China and to others countries. PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial has imposed a strict 3-year ban for leavers and those who would not honour their contract despite with a new offer from their respective ballclub.

This means that players, with expired contractt and went on a free-stricted agency and choose to go abroad instead. And players, who have been offered to sign a new deal with their respective ballclubs, but refuses elected to play in those leagues.

And should their contract while playing overseas, come to end or did not renew by their ballclubs, they won’t be allowed to negotiate should they express to return in the PBA.

In my previous discussion, I mentioned that the PBA is far more becoming Asia’s farm leagues, unless they come up with a robust or drastic measures and put to check their fading glory.

Marcial’s 3-year ban policy, has drawn sharp resentment from the sporting community, sportswriters, columnist, bloggers, former sports leaders, experts and players themselves.

Sentiments, reaction, views from the sporting aficionados were all coherent ( as well as this corner). Why deprived these people of a better life?. Why limit their opportunity, when there’s lot more to offer so they can provide better and sustainable future for their families.

Just recently, Marcial made an appeal to the collegiate league, UAAP and NCAA, to allow their graduating players to sign up in the Rookie Draft next month, at the same time had asked both leagues to reduce the residence period.

Well, that’s one way, but for me, in my humble opinion, Commissioner Marcial and the PBA board of Governors should get their acts togethere and resolved these challenges the league is facing right now.

And if I may offer my own little suggestion, why not try to explore more realistic and relevant offers, it may not that as high as the heaven, but least better and decent one.
