UAAP Baseball Tournament..NU BULLDOGS DOMINATE UP MAROONS

NATIONAL University men's baseball team displayed it's defensive prowess and never give up attitude asserting it's mastery against error proned University of the Philippines via 8-4 victory in the second round elimination of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) 86th Season baseball tournament Thursday night at UP Baseball Field in Diliman, Quezon City.

NATIONAL University men's baseball team displayed it's defensive prowess and never give up attitude asserting it's mastery against error proned University of the Philippines via 8-4 victory in the second round elimination of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines( UAAP)86th Season baseball tournament Thursday night at UP Baseball Field in Diliman,Quezon City.

The Bulldogs trailed tha Maroons from 0-2 to 2-3 in 4 innings heading to scoreless fifth inning.

The Sampaloc batters tied the game when Kent Olazo crossed the home plate on a passed ball and a throwing error by UP catcher Eman Javier.

A hit single by Nigel Paule followed by a bunt of Joven Maulit advanced him to second. A hard grounder by Harold Tenorio to a safe first pushed Paule on third in an all bases field situation.

Wopsy Zamora

Two RBI double followed by Kent's single sent home 3 runners that gave NU 6-2 lead at the bottom 6th. The Diliman sluggers can only respond a run on top 7th as NU had two more for comfortable lead down the stretch. Bulldog pitcher Jerrick Timban who subbed for MJ Carolino retired all four batters he faced two of them via strikeout at top 9th enroute to their 5th win in 8 outings to share a lead with Ateneo 5-3.

"Sabi ko sa mga bata push lang dahil 9 innings ang laban kahit malamangan ,never give up.They responded very well", said NU head coach Romar Landicho who acknowledged his deputies Robin Go,Junmar Diarao( pitching), conditioning mentor Fil Am Mon Estima and the full support of team manager Wopsy Zamora and motivation chief Rey Sol.

"Big D (defense) is the key. One win at a time and we will get there,"said Zamora giving full credits to his boys Amiel de Guzman, Paule, Kent Altarejos, Jude and Joven Maulit, Tenorio, Gio Corpido,Cyrill Antipolo, Nico Calanday, Olazo,Timban and Camposanto.
