PHILIPPINE Basketball Association(PBA) D-League member Wang’s Ballclub has been invited to participate in the FIBA 3×3 Lite Quest Men’s Open basketball tournament scheduled Sept. 12-15 at the Queen Bay Mall in Penang, Malaysia.
The invitation to Wang’s Ballclub was coursed through Armstrong Philippines Ads, Promotions and Events, Inc., headed by Managing Director Joven Ace Castillo.
In a letter to Wang’s Ballclub team owner-manager Alex Wang, Armstrong Philippines said Wang’s Ballclub’s participation “will elevate the level of competition and contribute to the spirit of international camaraderie that defines FIBA’s 3×3 events.”
Wang, on the other hand, said the FIBA 3×3 Lite Quest Men’s Open basketball tournament will be another good opportunity for the team and its players to display their wares in the international stage and promote friendship and camaraderie.
“Since 1996, Wang’s Ballclub has been actively promoting friendship and camaraderie through basketball not only in the Philippines but in other countries as well,” said Wang, who is best remembered for founding the semi-pro Millennium Basketball League (MBL) in 2000.
Wang, however, is not new to international competition.
In 2012, the Mandaluyong-based Wang’s Ballclub represented the country in the seventh Zheng Chenggong Cup international invitational basketball championship in Nanan City, Fujian, China.
The 67-year-old businessman-sportsman also served as team manager of the Fritz Gaston- mentored Philippine team which finished runner-up in the 2007 SEABA Championship for Women held in Phuket, Thailand.
Aside from the Penang 3×3 event, Wang’s Ballclub is also invited to play in the Asia-Pacific basketball championship in Brisbane, Australia on Oct. 2-5; Cougar 18-under tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia on Nov. 5-9; Sketch International Championships in Hong Kong, China on Nov. 14-23; and the CGR 3×3 in Jakarta, Indonesia on Dec. 4-7.
