WNCAA welcomes 55th season, continuing to champion Filipina Athletes with the theme, "Championing and Empowering Women in Sports".
The Women's National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA Philippines) continues on it's advocacy by uplifting Filipina Athletes in its 55th season tha unfolds today, September 14, at Assumption Antipolo, Rizal.
WNCAA chairperson Vivian Manila mentioned during this season's launch press conference that the organisation takes pride in being a grassroot league, providing a platform to sportswomen.
Notable alumni include CEU's Janine Pontejos, who plays guard for Gilas Pilipinas Women, and Paris Olympian golfer Bianca Pagdanganan, who studied in Assumption Antipolo.
This season also, 16 school are competing across various sports, including basketball, volleyball, futsal, street dance, and cheer dance, with 3x3 basketball as the new addition.
Another highlight is the return of the University of Makati and the University of Santo Tomas- Angelicum College, further tightening the competition.
Other competing schools include host Assumption Antipolo, Assumption College San Lorenzo, Centro Escolar University (CEU), Chiang Kai Shek College, De La Salle Zobel, La Salle College Antipolo, Miriam College, Philippine Women's University, San Beda College Alabang, St Jude Catholic School, St Paul College Pasig, St Scholastica's College, St Stephen's High School, and University of Asia & the Pacific.
Besides the sports events, the WNCAA is also holding a photo contest this season both for amateurs and professional, adding excitement to the league.
The 55th season kicks off with volleyball games on Saturday at Assumption Antipolo, followed by basketball on Sunday at Chiang Kai Shek College.
